Gucci… Real or Fake?

Gucci purses, designer accessories, status quo for those with money and those who pretend like they do. Where did it all start? Via Condotti, Rome was home to the first shop opened in 1938 by Guccio Gucci. By 1947 Guccio had brought us the instantaneously recognizable Gucci icon. The leather bag with the bamboo handle. Popularity rose during the 1960’s, when Hollywood stars such as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn made Gucci Chic. Gucci also made front-page news when Jackie Kennedy was photographed with the handbag that became known as the “Jackie O.”Gucci purses today are found for sale alongside Kate Spade, Burberry, and Prada, other well-known designer accessory names, in high-end fashion stores like Neiman Marcus, and can sell from anywhere between US$350.00 to US$4,800.00. However, if you are in the market for vintage Gucci purses, like classic vintage bamboo and leather braid handbags, you can always find an online auction.

High end too steep, afraid of auctions, there is always a knock-off. Gucci purses, along with other well-known brand names have become known for knock-off’s. In fact, knock-off purses are even more popular than the originals. According to federal agents in the States, knock-off products have become a 60 billion-dollar a year market. Big money made easily. These fakes are even bigger than drugs. They can be found anywhere from flea markets, to upscale boutiques. If you want an authentic Gucci make sure the label is on it. Real or fake it’s all in the label.

Caring for Your Jewellery

by: Lisa Jay
Sterling Silver & 14kt Gold:

Both will tend to tarnish over time.
-Store all precious metal jewelry in a zip lock bag to protect it. This does not stop the discoloration, but will drastically slow the process.
-Use a polishing cloth as needed for cleaning your jewelry.

Jewelry with semi-precious stones and crystals:

-Store all jewelry with semi-precious stones and crystals in a zip lock bag to protect it.
-Check the instructions on your jewelry cleaning solution prior to placing any items with stones in it to be cleaned. Some stones, such as turquoise, and freshwater pearls cannot be placed in most jewelry cleaning solutions.
-Do not wear your jewelry when you are showering or washing dishes.
-Use caution when wearing lotions and perfumes, for they will discolor gems such as turquoise.

Pearls:

Special care should be taken with pearls. They are much more fragile than most gemstones.
-Use caution when using hairspray and perfumes. Let dry completely before donning your pearls.
-Cleaning pearl jewelry: wipe with a clean dry soft cloth after wearing them.
